Help us Fund Parent Education & Support Programs

This 50/50 is a community fundraising event in support of the Autism Support Network Society’s Parent Education & Support Programs.  Through presentations, support meetings and videos, we provide group and 1:1 education, information and support to families in BC.

Following Covid restrictions and Provincial Health Orders, all in person fundraising events that require gathering or any hand to hand contact have been shut down.  Families within our network are suffering in many ways from a loss of interaction, and the uncertainty around caregiving and respite for their families.  We have experienced an increased need in families contacting us needing individualized support that we have had to increase our staffing and hours by 30%.  This online 50/50 is a safe way to engage our community in fundraising for funds to expand our Parent Education & Support Programs.

We reach tens of thousands of people through our digital resources.  We provide printed brochures to medical and government offices across the province.

Individual Support

Connecting experienced parents with families who are facing a new situation in their autism journey is the core of why our organization exists. Our intake process involves a network of volunteer parents who value the opportunity to provide an experienced voice. Many hours are spent providing individualized information and support over the phone, via email and in person.  Our parent representatives are passionate about empowering others to make evidence based decisions and become savvy consumers of autism services.

Parent Support and Education

The Autism Support Network holds neighbourhood network meetings where parents can connect with other parents and share trials and tribulations. Most of these meetings also feature guest speakers who give presentations to parents in their area of specialization. Topics have included social skill development, feeding challenges, practical functional analysis, aggression and self injurious behaviour, sexual health, sibling issues and a myriad of other subjects.

During Covid, we have continued to offer 4-6 educational and support sessions every month that are accessible throughout the province.

Educational Web Series

The “Welcome to Autism” series helps parents become savvy consumers of treatments. “ABA in Schools” and “Advocacy” are critical videos for parents wanting to have their children integrated into the public or private school system.  Find them on our website at www.autismsupportbc.ca
