ABOUT SUNSHINE HOUSE

Sunshine House is a place where people can grow! Sunshine House traces its history back to 1983, when a group of Winnipeggers organized to care for the earliest individuals diagnosed with HIV/ AIDS in Manitoba. Today, Sunshine House fills gaps and engages with folks with the goal of fulfilling social, community and recreational needs.

Participants can always come as they are — there is no requirement to be sober. Visitors can access everything from hot meals and harm reduction supplies to laundry and bathing facilities, free clothing, foot care, referrals and other supports.

In addition to our home base at 646 Logan Ave., we also operate the Mobile Overdose Prevention Site (MOPS), Manitoba’s first ever sanctioned supervised drug consumption site. In March 2025, we opened Kelly’s Corner, a transitional residence for 2SLGBTQIA+ people who are exiting encampment or unsheltered living.

ABOUT JINKX AND OPI

Jinkx and Opi are cats who reside at 646 Logan. Jinkx's domain is the main floor, where she can be found angling for pets and always pleading for more food (SHE HAS BEEN FED). Opi has seniority as the longer-tenured feline resident, and he patrols the upstairs. He might let you pet him... but watch out! This boy has CLAWS.

FUN FACTS

Jinkx was named for drag virtuosa Jinkx Monsoon. Opi was named for the character Opie Winston from the TV biker drama Sons of Anarchy.
